At the outset, my heartfelt greetings to all of you as the Chairman of DKVS. If we try to understand the meaning of the word Kunbi, then it will be clear to us that our community is viewed as those who sow the seed, till the land and feed the world. Our community has been involved in agriculture with dedication, honesty and living a life of respect in the villages for ages. But through this time, I feel that they are not adequately compensated by neither the government nor the society.
Tukadoji Maharaj said it in Gram Gita “कष्ट करोणी महाल बांधशी, परी झोपडी नाही नेटकीशी। स्वातंत्र्याकरीता उडीही घेशी, मजा भोगती इतरशी।”
Likewise, the ‘others’ that we see, meet and observe are all enjoying the fruits of what our community has sowed. But it remains a reality that kids and children of poor farmers in our community do not get the education they desire. The number of individuals clearing competitive examinations such as UPSC and MPSC is still very low. Many students have strong urge to continue education. But weak economic conditions is holding them back. Considering this, DKVS society has taken up several community initiatives to bring their dreams true. It is the endeavor of DKVS society, to provide housing/accommodation/hostel services to such needy students in major cities of Mumbai-Pune and bring them to the mainstream. To achieve this, several of our community members are doing their part. However, we still need to increase the membership of our DKVS society for increased economic strength. I believe that it is the duty of all to give back to the community which has given us our identity and much more. Therefore, it is an expectation and a request to all to contribute socially and financially to this noble endeavor. Inspired by the work of Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Maharaj, Rajmata Jijau, Savitribai Phule, I hold a strong hope in my heart. Let us all make a concerted effort to take our community together and scale this mountain of success.
